I feel my head is getting smacked from several directions as I try to have a coherent understanding of Debian firewall software. At this point, i am looking for a few pointers regarding current use or non-use of iptables, nftables, firewalld, and ufw.
BACKGROUND
The last time I setup a firewall was on Debian 10, using nftables. At this point, I think I was supposed to used firealld, but I never heard of firewalld before today.
Now, I need to setup a firewall on Debian 12. Browser search for Debian Firewall brought me to this page, which says at the start:
WARNING: nftables is the default firewall framework since Debian 10 Buster. This page is outdated.
Next several browser searches on Debian 12 Firewall brought to one page after another explaining how to use UFW. My brain is going, "what happened to nftables?"
