what is their a "deb" at the beginning of each source?

hey question,

i'm on linux mint and when i go into the etc/apt folder and i look at the sources.list text folder i see

#deb cdrom:[Linux Mint 21.3 _Virginia_ - Release amd64 20240109]/ jammy contrib main

so i understand this is a source referencing my USB installation media, and that it's commented out, but my question is, why does it start with a deb?

why when i go into the sources.list.d directory that linux mint uses, i see

/home/laptop/Desktop/apt/sources.list.d/official-package-repositories.list

and i go into it i see

deb http://packages.linuxmint.com virginia main upstream import backport #id:linuxmint_main

why do they all start with "deb" what does deb mean?

thank you
