Replacing current OS with Debian via debootstrap?

I'm in a situation where I would like to install Debian onto my current machine but my only USB stick has decided to kick the bucket and I do not have any CD's or DVD's I can burn. I have an android phone and have heard you can use it to boot install media, but that it requires rooting the phone and it seems like a huge pain to do so.

After some research I have read about debootstrap and that it should be able to achieve what I'm looking for. I would just like to ask if anyone has attempted something like this and if it would actually work out with no hiccups. I would like to take the current system (Linux Mint), use debootstrap to set up Debian in a separate partition, and then remove Mint after from within Debian and reclaim the disk space. My main worry is how grub is handled in all of this. Does debootstrap install a separate isolated version of grub? Surely Mint's grub and debian's grub are not the same version, so how would I handle removing Mint afterwards? Would I have a broken version of grub? Lots of questions.

Has anyone done something like this before and have had any success with it? Thanks.
