Debian 12 - which UI instead of Gnome ?

Hi,

i run into a lot of troubles with gnome so i consider to leave gnome and switch to another Desktop UI, i.e. xfce or cinnamon. So, why i want to leave gnome ? I'm using Gnome for yrs and for now i am really pi... off. There are more and more troubles with gnome and crashes, which clearly isn't Debian! After doing some research in journalctl i found always nearly the same entrys like "failed to start app-gnome-xdg....., gnome: connection to xwayland lost ...." and so on. Sometimes this ended with a crash and a necessary restart. Also to add some "nice" functionalitys" like thermal info, attached drives,... there had to be a lot of Gnome extensions, which often are not happy topgether  . Also the implementation of a security stick like the Yubico is a mess and locking the screen with a screensaver and unlock requires me to switch from Wayland to X. While i love the "DashtoDock" and some other things from the Gnome Desktop there was so much struggling around that i decided to leave Gnome.

After looking around and playing a liitle bit in a VM with xfce and cinnamon i'm still not sure which one to chose, cause both of them have their strengths. Hardware isn' really a factor, cause my system is strong enough for any UI ( Ryzen 7/32GB ram).

So hopefully someone can lighten me with pro's and con's from your point of view. Well, what is my daily routine: doing some work with Darktable, Gimp, Scribus, Inkscape and Libre Office, check eMails and schedules with Evolution and off course do some internet stuff.

Thank you all in advance for your thougts
Reinhard
