"Firefox is already running, but not responding" when trying to open links from other programs

Say, I try to open a URL link from software like Zathura PDF viewer or Discord:
  • While Firefox is already running: I get an error pop-up: "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To use Firefox, you must first close the existing Firefox process, restart your device, or use a different profile.". But opening a link from the terminal (be it `firefox some_url_link` or clicking the link from the Kitty terminal) everything works fine.
  • While not already running: Firefox automatically opens with no errors.
Things I've tried:
  • Reinstalling Firefox. Setting firefox as a default program: `xdg-settings set default-url-scheme-handler https firefox-esr.desktop`. Makes no difference.
  • Running firefox with `--safe-mode`. Creating a new profile. No difference.
  • Deleting a `.parentlock` file. Wonky things happen: allows to open the link, but a new firefox window is opened instead with other error: "The bookmarks and history system will not be functional because one of Firefox's files is in use by another application (Idk if this is of use)
Other info:
This wasn't an issue in AwesomeWM when I used to have KDE installed alongside AwesomeWM. It became an issue after reinstalling Debian and trying to setup my system from scratch (here is some context: https://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php ... 62#p808962)
