[SID - Unstable] xorg - x not refreshing window content

Got four Linux machines here, all running Sid with openbox and all have Intel video.

Less than a week ago I upgraded all four machines, which is something I do daily and only one of them broke. The broken machine is a 12th gen N100 and menus (jgmenu) and panel (lxpanel) work as expected but if you open any application you get a window with normal decorations and inside the window is solid black.

But wait - it gets better.

If you minimize and restore the window you'll get content in the window but the content will not update. conky freezes as soon as it starts (uptime says 6-7 seconds when it freezes) and sometimes it doesn't display at all.

Pretty sure this is just X not refreshing but no idea why and neither google nor ChatGPT have been real helpful. I've disabled picom, turned off preloading spacefm and journalctl -p 3 -xb shows absolutely nothing related to X. Same with ~/.xsession-errors which hasn't been modified since right before xmas last year :) none of these machines are running an xorg.conf.

I haven't reinstalled Sid because something was broken since 2013 and would prefer not to now :)

Anybody got any ideas?

tl;dr - X doesn't appear to be refreshing widnow content. Apps start with a black window but will refresh if you minimize and restore.

edit: More stuff as I think of it :)

- you can drag the window anywhere you want and that works but window content doesn't refresh.

- as mentioned, minimize and restore will refresh the window but the window will not update once restored.
